Meet the team
The Symes Family has been running A Touch of Elegance in Canberra for over 26 years. The team is made up of the proprietors Peter and Valerie Symes and their extended family. Peter has more than 40 years experience in display and set design having commenced his career in fashion displays and fashion catwalk shows in Sydney. Peter continues to be ‘hands on’ as the leader of the ‘Canopy’ team, creating amazing ceiling decorations for any event.
Valerie specialises in beautiful table arrangements that are constantly changing to suit the modern bride. She also takes care of chair covers which brings the decorations together and makes the venue look complete.
Peter and Valerie’s children are also involved in the family business as well as Valerie’s sister June Lawrence who manages ‘A Touch of Elegance’ in New Zealand. Visit her at www.elegancenz.co.nz
A total experience
A Touch of Elegance has over 40 years of experience with display, set design and event decorating. We offer the latest in decorative design for weddings, corporate events and any special occasion.
We can give you full service from custom venue/marquee design, to delivery and set up of the decorations for the venue, to the removal of everything after the event.
We cater for both large and small events and specialize in ceiling canopies, wall linings, candelabras, flowers, mood lighting, table centrepieces, theme prop design and much much more.
A Touch of Elegance offer an extensive range of products for hire and can create dozens of different looks, colour schemes and styles to suit all kinds of events
If you need inspiration, you need only visit our office/showroom and we can put together original ideas that will combine together to create a fantastic look for your function.
The team at A Touch of Elegance are extremely flexible and will take on any job. We have recently broken our own record by having completed 16 functions in one weekend. We have a range of repeat customers for Government, charity, and fundraiser balls. We are also the first point of call for many venues that refer to us as the ‘preferred decorators’.
We don’t just work in Canberra but surrounding areas in NSW and Sydney and New Zealand.

Canopies
The canopies are what A Touch of Elegance is famous for. We offer a range of canopies to suit your venue from the traditional canopy, to the marquee look. Our canopies are designed to match your occasion and we offer them in a variety of fabric colours and light shades.

Table arrangements
Our table arrangements are constantly changing to please the customer. We research new ideas and looks and have a fantastic display at our office. To meet the needs of the bride we also stock a huge variety of vases, candles, waterproof fairy lights and source our flowers from The Sydney Flower Markets.
Our creative team can also take care of your event theme by matching the table arrangements.

Chair covers
Our chair covers are the traditional tie back covers in white, cream, black fabric and we now stock champagne satin chair covers. The look is completed with sash to tie it together. We stock over 60 different colours in satin and organza fabric sashes…if these colours are not what you’re after, we will tailor make the sash to suit your wedding or event.
